MOVE FORWARD
KEY SCRIPTURE: EXODUS 14:15 (KJV)
“And the LORD said unto Moses, Wherefore criest thou unto me? speak unto the children of Israel, that they go forward.”
INTRODUCTION: PROGRESS CONNOTES MOVEMENT.
Moving forward is a decision to keep advancing in faith, regardless of the circumstances surrounding you. Progress connotes movement. You cannot expect to experience a new level while remaining in the same position, mindset, and attitude.
In Exodus 14:15, the children of Israel stood before the Red Sea, with the Egyptian army behind them. Humanly speaking, there was no way of escape. Yet, God’s instruction to Moses was clear: “Go forward!”
God did not ask them to remain where they were, complaining about the sea or being afraid of the enemy. He instructed them to move forward.
Sometimes, the situation before you may look impossible. You may be surrounded by challenges, disappointments, delays, or uncertainty. But God’s instruction remains: MOVE FORWARD!
Do not allow what is behind you to intimidate you or what is before you to paralyse you. There is a divine instruction for your next level, and your responsibility is to keep moving in faith.
1. GOD CAN CHANGE YOUR STORY IN A MOMENT
(Psalm 126:1–3; Isaiah 43:19; Esther 9:1)
Never conclude your story based on your present circumstances. The fact that things are not working now does not mean they will remain that way.
God is powerful enough to change a man’s story in a moment. What looks like a season of stagnation can become a season of supernatural advancement. A door that has remained shut can open, and a situation that has brought tears can become a testimony.
Joseph moved from the prison to the palace. Esther moved from obscurity to royalty. The Israelites moved from slavery to freedom.
Their stories remind us that your present position is not necessarily your final destination.
Do not be discouraged because of how long you have waited. Do not give up because you cannot yet see the result of your efforts. God is not limited by time, human systems, or the circumstances around you.
Keep your faith alive. Keep obeying God’s Word. Keep taking the right steps. Your responsibility is to remain faithful as you move forward.
2. DO NOT BE DISCOURAGED OR DISTRACTED
(Philippians 3:13–14; Galatians 6:9; Nehemiah 6:3)
One of the greatest enemies of progress is discouragement. Another is distraction.
Discouragement makes you focus on what has gone wrong, while distraction takes your attention away from what God has called you to do.
There may be seasons when you pray and it seems as though nothing is happening. You may work hard without seeing immediate results. You may take steps of faith and still encounter resistance.
But do not measure your progress only by what you can see.
A seed planted in the ground may appear inactive, yet something is happening beneath the surface. In the same way, your consistent prayers, obedience, service, preparation, and faithfulness are not wasted.
Keep moving even when applause is absent. Keep serving even when recognition is delayed. Keep believing even when your circumstances seem contrary to your expectations.
Like Nehemiah, who refused to come down from the work he was doing, refuse to abandon your assignment because of distractions.
You cannot move forward effectively while continually looking backward.
Release the weight of past mistakes, disappointments, failures, and missed opportunities. Learn from yesterday, embrace today, and move toward what God has set before you.
3. FAITH IS VITAL FOR MOVING FORWARD.
(Hebrews 11:1, 6; 2 Corinthians 5:7; Romans 1:17)
Faith is the currency needed to progress in the things of God.
Hebrews 11 introduces us to men and women who moved forward by faith. Noah built an ark before the rain came. Abraham obeyed God and went out without knowing all the details of his destination. Moses forsook the pleasures of Egypt and identified with God’s people.
They did not allow what they could not see to stop them from acting on God’s Word.
Faith is not merely wishing for a better future. Faith responds to God’s Word with confidence, obedience, and action.
You cannot move forward spiritually while allowing fear to dictate every decision. You cannot embrace God’s possibilities while constantly confessing defeat. You must learn to see beyond your present circumstances through the lens of God’s Word.
Faith does not mean that you will never encounter challenges. It means that challenges will not have the final authority over your decisions.
When God says move, move by faith. When He gives you an instruction, obey. When the path appears uncertain, trust His wisdom.
Faith gives you the courage to take the next step before you see the entire journey.
Remember, the Israelites had to respond to God’s instruction to go forward. Faith must be expressed through corresponding action.
4. KEEP MOVING REGARDLESS OF YOUR CIRCUMSTANCES.
(Proverbs 24:16; Micah 7:8; 2 Corinthians 4:8–9)
Moving forward does not mean you will never experience setbacks. It means that setbacks will not become your permanent address.
The righteous may fall, but they rise again. You may experience disappointment, but you must not surrender your future to disappointment. You may make mistakes, but you can learn, rise, and continue with wisdom.
Do not stop because the journey has become difficult. Do not abandon your vision because the results are taking longer than expected.
Sometimes, moving forward means taking a bold step. At other times, it means remaining consistent in the little things God has committed to you.
★ Keep praying when the answer seems delayed.
★ Keep studying the Word when your feelings fluctuate.
★ Keep serving God with a sincere heart.
★ Keep developing your gifts and abilities.
★ Keep taking wise, purposeful steps toward your goals.
★ Keep trusting God when you cannot understand the process.
Your movement may appear small, but consistency matters. Do not despise the day of small beginnings (Zechariah 4:10).
You do not have to understand every detail of tomorrow to take the right step today.
5. YOUR WORDS MUST AGREE WITH YOUR FAITH.
(2 Corinthians 4:13; Proverbs 18:21; Mark 11:23)
Your words influence your mindset, decisions, and responses to life’s challenges. Therefore, learn to speak in agreement with God’s Word rather than continually magnifying your problems.
Instead of saying, “Nothing is working for me,” declare, “God is at work in me, and I will continue to walk in His wisdom.”
Instead of saying, “I cannot make progress,” declare, “Through Christ, I have strength to fulfil God’s purpose for my life.”
Instead of saying, “My past has ruined my future,” remind yourself that God’s mercies are new every morning (Lamentations 3:22–23).
This is not about denying reality or pretending challenges do not exist. It is about refusing to let challenges become greater in your heart than God’s promises.
Let your confession be full of faith, hope, courage, and expectation. Then let your actions demonstrate what you believe.
6. TAKE ACTION ON GOD’S INSTRUCTION.
(James 2:17; Deuteronomy 2:3; Philippians 2:13)
God’s instruction to Israel was not merely to feel encouraged; it was to move forward.
There comes a time when you must stop postponing the step you already know you need to take. Prayer is vital, but there are moments when prayer must be accompanied by obedience and action.
What has God placed in your heart to do? What responsibility have you been avoiding? What gift needs development? What necessary conversation, application, preparation, or act of service have you delayed because of fear?
Identify the next right step and take it.
You do not have to do everything in one day. Begin with what is in your hands, remain sensitive to God’s leading, and continue faithfully.
Divine direction must produce practical movement.
When God gives you an instruction, do not let fear, procrastination, or the opinions of others keep you stationary.
