CONFRONTING THE ENEMY WITHIN ME
Reference Texts: 1 Corinthians 13:1-5, Psalm 66:18,Romans 7:19
INTRODUCTION
One of the greatest battles every Christian must win is the battle against the enemy within. Before David defeated Goliath publicly, he had won private battles. Before God can use us greatly, He must first deal with the hidden things in our hearts.
The enemy within refers to the sinful nature, wrong attitudes, bitterness, pride, unforgiveness, jealousy, anger, selfishness, and every thought that opposes the will of God in our lives.
Romans 7:19 says: “For the good that I would I do not: but the evil which I would not, that I do.”
Paul acknowledged the struggle that exists within a person who desires to please God but must daily submit to the Spirit.
1. The Enemy Within Can Hinder Our Fellowship with God
Psalm 66:18 declares: “If I regard iniquity in my heart, the Lord will not hear me.”
Hidden sins and wrong motives create barriers between us and God. Many believers gives the Devil the legal right to accuse us because of this hidden sins. Many seek God’s power while ignoring the condition of their hearts. God is interested not only in our actions but also in our motives.
“The condition of your heart will determine the direction of your life”
Questions for self-examination:
Am I harboring unforgiveness?
Is pride controlling my decisions?
Do I secretly envy others?
Are my motives pure before God?
2. The Enemy Within Can Destroy Our Witness
1 Corinthians 13:1-3 teaches that gifts, talents, and sacrifices are meaningless without love.
A believer may speak in tongues, prophesy, pray fervently, and still be defeated by the enemy within if love is absent. Kingdom service without kingdom character is incomplete.
The greatest evidence of spiritual maturity is not the gifts we display but the fruit we bear.
3. Love: The Ultimate Test of Victory
1 Corinthians 13:4-5 reveals the character of genuine love:
Love is patient.
Love is kind.
Love does not envy.
Love is not proud.
Love keeps no record of wrongs.
When these qualities are lacking, the enemy within is still operating.
A believer who conquers anger, bitterness, pride, and unforgiveness has won a greater battle than one who conquers external opposition.
Two most common doors believers leaves open are
1) Unconfessed sin.
2) Unforgiving Spirit.
CONCLUSION
The greatest revival begins within. God is calling His people to examine their hearts and confront every hidden enemy. The battle is not merely against forces around us but also against attitudes and desires that seek to hinder our walk with God.
Today, ask the Holy Spirit to search your heart, expose every hidden weakness, and transform you into the image of Christ.
PRAYER
