IT IS A GOOD THING TO GIVE THANKS
ANCHOR SCRIPTURE: Psalm 92:1–4
«“It is a good thing to give thanks unto the LORD, and to sing praises unto thy name, O most High: To show forth thy lovingkindness in the morning, and thy faithfulness every night…” Psalm 92:1–2 (KJV)»
Thanksgiving is not merely an expression of gratitude; it is a lifestyle that reflects a heart that recognizes God’s faithfulness. A thankful believer never forgets where God brought them from or what He has done. Every breath we take, every victory we enjoy, every door that has opened, and every battle we have overcome is evidence of His unfailing mercy.
The psalmist declares that it is a good thing to give thanks to the Lord. Why? Because thanksgiving glorifies God, strengthens our faith, and positions us for greater manifestations of His power. A heart filled with gratitude leaves no room for murmuring, complaining, or discouragement.
HOW TO GIVE AN ACCEPTABLE THANKS
1. REMEMBER ALL THE THINGS GOD HAS DONE
One of the greatest enemies of thanksgiving is forgetfulness. When we forget God’s goodness, we begin to complain instead of praise. Take time to remember His protection, provision, healing, favor, open doors, answered prayers, and the countless blessings you could never repay.
Psalm 103:2 – “Bless the LORD, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits.”
Every testimony begins with remembering what God has done.
2. SHARE YOUR TESTIMONY WITH OTHERS
Your testimony is proof of God’s power at work in your life. When you testify, you glorify God, strengthen the faith of others, and encourage those who are waiting for their own breakthrough.
Never hide what God has done. Let people know that it was the Lord who sustained you, delivered you, and gave you victory.
Psalm 66:16 (KJV) Come and hear, all ye that fear God, And I will declare what he hath done for my soul.
Your testimony can become someone else’s reason to believe God again.
3. SHARE THE GOSPEL WITH OTHERS
One of the greatest ways to thank God is by leading others to Christ. If God has saved you, then let your life become a channel through which others experience His love.
Our gratitude should move us beyond words into action. Share the Gospel with your family, friends, neighbors, colleagues, and everyone God brings across your path.
Mark 16:15 (KJV) And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature.
Matthew 28:19-20 (KJV) Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: [20] teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen.
A grateful heart desires that others also experience the goodness of God.
4. OFFER YOURSELF AS A LIVING SACRIFICE
True thanksgiving goes beyond singing songs; it is the surrender of our lives to God. We express genuine gratitude by living in obedience, holiness, and complete devotion to Him.
Present your gifts, your time, your talents, your resources, and your entire life as an offering to God. Let every aspect of your life bring Him glory.
Romans 12:1 (KJV) I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service.
A life fully yielded to God is one of the highest expressions of thanksgiving.
CONCLUSION
Thanksgiving is not reserved for seasons of abundance alone. We thank God because He is good, faithful, and worthy at all times. As you continually remember His goodness, testify of His mighty works, proclaim the Gospel, and present yourself as a living sacrifice, your life will continually reflect His glory.
May your heart never lose the song of thanksgiving and may your praise continually rise before the Lord. As you remain thankful, may God multiply His grace, enlarge your testimonies and fill your life with unending joy in Jesus’ name… Amen.
